Great essays! I really appreciated the one on ambient and mood machines. It made me think of a somewhat obscure 80s German cyberpunk/industrial film, Decoder. In it, Neubauten's FM Einheit plays a punk who discovers that the "Muzak" playing in a fast-food chain is using coded frequencies to control the minds of its customers, and he sets out to replace it with an "Anti-Muzak" that sparks a wave of rebellion. The film is loosely based on a novel by Bourroughs, and Bourroughs himself has a cameo, along with Genesis P. Orridge. It's available for free on Youtube - it's a bizarre, subversive film, well worth a look!

This sounds absolutely fantastic, kind of a musical equivalent of the They Live glasses. Will check it out!
